Looking at the researches and applications made using alternative energy, it really seems like it would a the perfect choice for ordinary people like you and me – people building new homes, those who want to save on their electric bill in the long run, those who want to live in a greener and healthier environment.
HOWEVER, just like anything else, even the seemingly perfect energy solutions provided by alternative sources have disadvantages that we all need to take into account. Let’s take a closer look at some of them:
Alternative Energy Disadvantages 1 – Cannot Be Stored
One of the biggest setbacks of using alternative energy is that they cannot be used like coal and gas. This is a huge issue. That means relying on alternative energy will have us at the mercy of mother nature. If there is no strong wind for one whole week (which is possible), those wind turbines are of no use.
If there is no sunlight for a long time, say during rainy seasons or if you are living too far north, solar panels will be useless piece of junk for you. The list goes on and on.
There are other sources of power that are being studied right now. You see, there are hybrid cars that have been available in the market for quite some time now. BUT here’s the thing – right now, ordinary Joes and Janes can’t afford such advanced technology to use it in their homes and produce the energy their appliances need.
Alternative Energy Disadvantages 2 – Can Be EXTREMELY Expensive
Another huge disadvantage of alternative energy is that they can be very expensive into our current power infrastructure and set up. You see, many of the alternative energy sources need a totally different type of wiring, and that’s just one!
That means you need to spend truckloads of cash to do the transformation needed to take advantage of natural energy sources. And when I say truckloads of cash, that means it’s in the thousands of dollars NOT hundreds.
It is true that using Alternative Energy will save us more money in the long term. But before the ‘long term’ – God has placed ’short term’ and ‘middle term’. And during those times, we need to invest a fortune. I don’t everybody has the funds and resources to invest into this transformation.

If we are NOT willing to make the change, invest, and be at the mercy of Mother Nature for running our computers, printers, washing machines, and other appliances, we won’t be able to realize the advantages brought by alternative energy.
